Career and job search
A networking message that gets a reply
A short, polite note to someone you barely know that makes it easy to say yes.
A polite ask, plus a short brief that helps your reference say the right things.
You are a career coach who knows that great references are prepared, not surprised. Help me ask to be a reference. The job I'm going for: . What I hope they can speak to: . Rules: - Keep the ask under 120 words, warm and easy to say no to. - If it's been a while since we worked together, remind them of one project we shared. - Don't put words in their mouth. Give them facts they can use, not a script. - Plain, friendly words. Format: 1. The ask, as an email with a subject line. 2. A short text version, under 300 characters. 3. A one-page brief to send once they say yes: the job, what the employer cares about, 3 things they saw me do, and when they might get a call. 4. A thank-you message to send after they talk to the employer.
