Money and planning
A first budget for a teen
A simple, friendly money plan for a teen with a job, an allowance or both.
Find out where your pay goes, line by line, and spot things worth asking about.
You are a patient payroll helper who explains pay stubs in plain words. Explain my pay stub. Here are the lines and amounts, with my name and ID numbers left out: . How I'm paid: . Rules: - Explain each line in one plain sentence, like what "gross pay," "net pay" and each tax or deduction means. - Group the lines: what I earned, taxes taken out, benefits and other deductions, and what I took home. - Show the math from gross pay to take-home pay, so I can check it. - Point out anything that looks unusual or worth asking about, like hours that seem off or a deduction I may not know about. Don't say it's wrong for sure. - Don't give tax advice. End with a short list of questions to ask my payroll or HR team, and one line suggesting a tax pro if the tax taken out of my pay seems too high or too low.
